Soccer Stud!

Congratulations goes out to Caleb for completing his second season of Kindergarten Soccer! Their team chose the name "Green Sting Rays" (why, I don't know!) and they had a lot of fun together. Caleb was awarded the "Best Offense" award because he was always right there ready to steal the ball away from the other team. He received a certificate and everything! Here's an action shot for you.

Here are some more of what went on along the sidelines. Yes, we are wearing our warm winter coats! We had a hard time keeping James off the field and from moving the cones around. He just wanted to play too!

Father and Sons Campout

James' first Father and Sons Campout! Caleb, of course looks forward to this every year, as does Bryce. The weather was quite cold for the middle of May, and the wind was pretty much just ridiculous, but they all managed to have a great time regardless. It was their first time sleeping in the van instead of a tent and that was really exciting! I think that they pretty much ate a lot of junk food, had a messy egg toss, and enjoyed eating at a restaurant together. Sounds like good father-son bonding to me!

Quiet River

Caleb had his first piano recital last week! I have been teaching him piano the last year and decided to combine with my friend, Heidi, and her two daughters to do a joint recital. I was so proud to see Caleb be so brave and sit down and play his piece totally memorized! He's really loved playing and I can't believe how motivated he is!

Happy Memorial Day!

Memorial Day is such a fun holiday for us. It brings back memories of early morning outdoor breakfasts and trips to the cemetary when I was younger. Now we are making memories with our own little family! We held a big breakfast at the park with friends in the morning, and then just played outside the whole rest of the day! We played bad mitten, boccie ball, kickball, waterballoons, swimming in the kids' pool (just the kids did). And yes, we had a wonderful BBQ to top it off in the evening. The weather was great and the time together with family couldn't have been better.

Girl Trip 08

Last year I went on a girl trip with 4 wonderful friends to Savannah, GA (no kids or husbands allowed). It was such a success that I decided to make it an annual thing! This year I had the fortunate chance to go with all 3 of my sisters, as well as my dear friend, Jenna, to not only Savannah, Georgia, but Charleston, South Carolina as well.

What a trip! We were only gone 4 days, but we did so much! We ate amazing food and shopped at fun little stores all along the way. I love all the Spanish Moss hanging from all the trees! Michelle was posing for a picture with some here - we later learned during our ghost tour that the moss is home to itchy bugs like lice, ticks, and chiggers! Whoops!

For our creepy ghost tour, we drove around Savannah in the back of a hearse while our guide told us great history about the city as well as some really creepy TRUE stories (I'm sure they were all true!). Our tour guide literally had us leaping from our seats!

Thursday we ate, shopped, ate, shopped, walked, ate and ate. Ok, we did more than that! But that's what it felt like at the end of the day! We ate lunch at the Famous Paula Dean's "Lady and Sons" restaurant for some genuine greasy southern food! What a treat! Needless to say we had some serious extra pounds to walk off, so we spent our day walking along the most beautiful street in America - Jones Street! Every house was perfect and unique and beautiful with antique iron gates and amazingly manicured gardens! I loved this! And the trees just kind of hang over the cobble or brick paved street. So cute!

We also lost a few pounds (don't worry, we got it all back at dinner!) walking along historic river street tasting as many samples of hot pralines that our taste buds could stand. YUM!

And to top it all off, we all stopped in a cute nail place for a much needed pedicure! I think I enjoyed this the most out of everyone there! But then again, I was the only pregnant women with swollen ankles in the group!

Friday was supposed to be a day spent blissfully on the beach, but it turned out to be so windy we couldn't hear each other talk! So we had fish tacos and took off to see Charleston instead.

Ok, if you have never been to Charleston, SC, you are totally missing out! It is like nothing I've ever seen before! The city has preserved so much of its history that it feels like you're taking a walk back in time or something!

We walked down streets and streets of homes with beautiful flowers and ivy and gardens and cute shutters and live topiaries and fountains and cute boot scrapers out front the main entrance! Can I use any more exclamation points to prove how great it was?!

The pictures just don't do it justice. But I will just say that this is a must see place! We spent much of our night Friday and most of Saturday just walking around and wondering what we need to do in our lives so that we can live there someday!

Yes, I do think that I grew like 6 inches around this trip, and here is just one of the reasons why. We ordered the richest yummiest chocolate pudding for dessert at Hominy Grill in Charleston. Highly recommend it - very much worth every bite of cream, sugar, butter, and whatever else that's in it!

Now, although this was not my absolute highlight of the trip, it is worth mentioning that we visited Magnolia Plantation to complete our tour of Charleston. The plantation home itself was a little disappointing, but the grounds were amazing!

We went on a little tram tour of the grounds and crossed paths with blue herons, peacocks, snakes, turtles, and alligators. Yes, alligators. It was all fun and games when we were on the tram ride, but when we toured the grounds on foot later and the gators were like within 5 feet of us, lets just say our nerves got the best of us and we were outta there! A fun and wild adventure!

Needless to say, this trip was definitely worth every little bit of planning that went into it! The company was fantastic and the sights were amazing. It was a much needed break from everyday life! A HUGE thank you goes out to my wonderful husband, Bryce, who so willingly took over things in the home so I could go. I think he really enjoyed being with the kids and they loved having him around so much, I'm sure! This just reminds me of some words that Elder Ballard instructed to husbands in the latest general conference,
"give your wife a “day away” now and then. Just take over the household and give your wife a break from her daily responsibilities. Taking over for a while will greatly enhance your appreciation of what your wife does. You may do a lot of lifting, twisting, and bending!" Thanks, Honey!
I love that! So all you girls out there who need a break, I'm all for it! Not really sure when or where the next trip will be, but it will be great! Let me know if you have any ideas!

Thanks for the fun, girls!

Kite Festival

Saturday we drove up to Salem (near Roanoke) for the 10th annual Kite Festival. We've never been before, but thought that it sounded like something fun to do. We pulled up and saw hundreds of kites flying in the air! It was amazing! Thousands of people gathered at this huge park every year in a valley where the wind is supposed to blow more - perfect for kite flying! There are venders of all sorts and games for kids. The kids even got to make their own kite (which didn't look too much more than a Kroger bag, but flew nonetheless!) and they had a great time getting them up in the air. It was actually quite crazy - people were flying there kites wherever they wanted, so we had to keep a constant heads up! We had a good time though!

We enjoyed watching the pros do "kite ballet" to music, as well as watch them fly these huge kites that are one of a kind. I guess its quite the sport! We had a picnic on the grass as we watched.

Upon a Golden Springtime

I love springtime! There are so many trees full of white, pink, and yellow blossoms all over town. The daffodils and tulips are so gorgeous! I had to take the kids out for a walk to take a few pics around the neighborhood. We had such a fun day smelling flowers, playing at the park, and splashing in puddles!
